Day Destination Experience
1 Marrakech / Ouarzazate

Your driver will take you to Ouarzazate through the High Atlas Mountains and the pass of Tizi N’Tichka, the highest in North Africa. Ouarzazate  serves as the Hollywood of Morocco and many of the movie stars stay in the area when filming. Stop at Ait Ben Haddou. It is perhaps the most spectacular Kasbah in Morocco, this complex of tightly packed Kasbahs is the actual site of many motion pictures. Continue onto Ouarzazate, visit the Kasbah of Taourirt which belonged to Pacha El Glaoui, a Berber historical figure, it was once the largest Moroccan Kasbah. You may also want to visit the Kasbah Tifoultout, located on the cliffs above the river and which belonged to a former khalif of Pacha El Glaoui. (B, D)

2 Ouarzazate / Zagora

Your driver will take you to Zagora via the Draa Valley. The town got its name from the mountain surrounding it. On top of it, you can still see the remains of an Almoravide fortress. Transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, the driver is at your disposal. Tamegroute has a history as an important center of learning and religion. It was at one time, one of the largest Sufi orders in the Islamic world. The city is famous for its library which houses thousands of manuscripts; among them centuries old Korans. On the way there, you might want to stop at Amzrou, an old Jewish village, where you can visit the old Mellah and the remains of an old Synagogue. The whole region is a gold mine of prehistoric vestiges. From Tamegroute drive to M’hamid (a short distance away), the last settlement before the Sahara. Return to Zagora for overnight (B, D)

3 Zagora / Erfoud

Your driver will take you to Erfoud. On the way there, stop in Rissani, the capital of the Tafilalet where the Alaouite dynasty, the actual King’s ancestors, come from and some of them are buried there, visit the 17th century Kasbah and imposing ruins of Ksar Abbar. Rissani is also famous for its fossil quarries and its pottery. Erfoud is a popular destination for film makers because of the beautiful views of the Sahara desert; besides that, the main attraction of the city is its proximity to the spectacular UNESCO World Heritage dunes of Merzouga. Transfer to your hotel. (B, D)

4 Erfoud / Merzouga / Erfoud

In the early afternoon, you will travel to Merzouga in 4×4 Land-Rovers to watch the sunset on the spectacular dunes which were featured in the movie “Lawrence of Aabia”, while having Moroccan mint tea or experience unforgettable ride on a camel, the “desert ship,” that will carry you through sand dunes and spectacular scenery. It will be followed by a magical guided tour while star gazing at the star studded sky in the desert is unbelievably beautiful and is a must see. Return to Erfoud. (B, D)

5 Erfoud / Tineghir-Ouarzazate (300 KM)

Your driver will take you to Ouarzazate via Tineghir, probably the most scenic route on your trip. On the way there, make a detour to visit the beautiful Todra Gorges where you can stop for tea or lunch. You approach, via palm grove oases, and actually cross a stream to get there. Depart along the Dades River Valley, where you can opt for another detour to the Dades Gorges (a completely different experience); continue along the route through the city of El Kelaa De Mgouna, famous for its rosewater and its yearly festival of roses.
